Yesterday’s Bible study with my two littles ended with all three of us in tears… and I knew I needed to share it with you.
Each day for homeschool I put together a lesson plan that I walk through with them and yesterdays was on IDOLS—the little (or big) things that quietly try to take God’s place in our hearts. And let’s just say when we reached the reflection section, something sacred happened.
One by one, my kids shared—honestly, bravely, and with tears welling up—the things they’re tempted to put before God. Not big dramatic sins… just the everyday pulls that are so relatable. Toys. Screens. Friends. Comfort. Being in control. Wanting things their way.
And as I listened to them, my heart ached in the most beautiful way, because I saw conviction—not shame, not fear—just this gentle, Holy-Spirit nudge happening right there around our kitchen table.
I told them, “You’re not alone. We all have these pulls—every single one of us.”
For me? It can be work. Productivity. My phone. Even good things—things I love—can slip into the wrong position if I’m not paying attention.
We talked about how God isn’t asking us to give up all the good things in our lives. He’s the One who gave them to us. He just wants to stay first—because everything else finds its right place when He’s at the center.
And then we got practical.
We talked about:
• Noticing when something starts taking too much of our attention.
• Pausing and asking, “Is this becoming more important than God in my heart?”
• Choosing small ways to redirect our focus back to Him.
• Understanding that repentance is simply realigning our hearts—not punishment, but freedom.
It was simple. Honest. Emotional. And incredibly powerful.
I wanted to share this moment with you in case it blesses your home the way it blessed ours. These conversations don’t have to be complicated—they just have to be intentional. And you’d be surprised how deeply kids understand these truths when we slow down long enough to invite them into it.
If you try this with your own littles, I’d love to hear how it goes. God is doing something in the next generation… and I feel humbled to witness it up close!
XO Linds
